Real-Time Clinical Informatics

We have accumulated strong expertise is comprehensive clinical data collection, such as vital sign data recording (VSDR) system for real-time automatic patient data collection from pre-hospital (Ambulances, Helicopters) to the bed side (Resuscitation, OR, PACU and ICU’s).

We have developed innovative applications to exploit the real-time data for difference purposes. We developed sophisticated signal processing methods to integrate real-time clinical sensor information (VS, Video, Alarm) for enhance real-time operation and research. One example is based on the live OR patient vital signs, automatic mapping it to the patient In / Out status for OR management.

Real-time data about the patient is highly valuable. Advances are made to measure the patient in increasingly comprehensive methods, ranging from gene expressions to thermal imaging of perfusion.

We developed the Auto Patient vital signs and events Data Acquire (APDA) systems for both pre-hospital and in hospital care.

Interfacing Technology to Auto Communicating with Patient Monitors, Measuring Devices

  • Pre-hospital (In-flight and in-Ambulance) APDA system has real-time interfaces with patient monitors (Propaq 204, 206 Lifepaq 12), on board GPS, PDAs, Laptops, Cameras, Microphones, ambulance door, speed and strature sensors.
  • In Hospital APDA system interfaces in real-time with patient bed side monitor (GE Marquette, Mannan, Nellcor, Criticare, Licox, Propaq, Siemens Ventilators), OR Schedules and multi-channel real-time videos patient bays (TRU, OR, PACU, CT)

Networking and integrating diverse medical data sources in real-time systems

  • We developed the in-hospital auto patient vital sings and events collection network (APDA-Net) covers Shock Trauma Center (TRU, OR, PACU, CT, ICUs.) and University of Maryland Medical Center (ASCU, OR, PACU, ICU)
  • Pre-hospital APDA-Net covers Medvac bases, in-flight data recording, and Shock Trauma Center / MIMESS real-time wireless data transfer and mining

Integrated Multimedia Networks for Telemedicine, Disaster Management & Home

  • International telemedicine and disaster management network connected with (Australia, China, France, Germany, and NATO)
  • We design and developed integrated telemedicine network based on Many to One to Many (MOM) architecture.
  • Telemedicine control center test bed at Shock Trauma Center covers (12TRUs, 6 ORs ,2CTs and 9 PACUs)
  • Telemedicine Control Center at UMMC covers 19 OR suites
  • Mobile telemedicine system for tele-Stroke care covers 3 intro-hospital transfer ambulances (Expresscare)
  • Fix telemedicine system for remoter Stroke, Trauma and Orthopedic care.
