Colin and a collaborator from Australia just published a review paper on teamwork measures in Journal of Critical Care. The paper describes different methodologies used to capture team
performance metrics including clinical surveys, direct observation, and
video-based analyses of real-life clinical performance.

Peter came back from China earthquake relief efforts
Peter was prominently featured in Baltimore Sun after a 10-day trip to Chengdu, China, as a part of the medical team from the Shock Trauma Center.

Two poster presentations accepted at AMIA
Peter and Danny each submitted a poster presentation at American Medical Informatics Association Fall Symposium and both were accepted. One poster describes the statewide inflight patient vital signs collection system as part of a larger project on traumatic brain injury. Another describes the tools used during ICU rounds.

Panel presentation at AMIA on distributed cognition
Yan will participate in a panel on distributed cognition organized by Paul Gorman of Oregon Health & Sciences University. The panelwas accepted at American Medical Informatics Association's fall symposium in DC and will feature 5 leading researchers in using the distributed cognition approach to medical informatics.

Good luck, Ayan
After a very productive but short 9-month stay with us, Ayan starts his residency program at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. With 4 manuscripts under review or in final draft stages, his post-doctoral fellowship has been a resounding success. He contributed greatly to our research program and we look forward to future collaboration with him.

Abstract accepted at ASA
Ayan's two submissions to this year's ASA were accepted! Very nice tribute to Ayan who is about to commence his residency at Henry Ford. The abstracts described the analysis of key task performance time during the initial assessment and resuscitation of trauma patient, and field vital signs as acquired by automatic data acquisition system.

Peter is in China earth quake zone
Peter is one of the five trauma specialists from the Shock Trauma Center currently in China to help the earthquake relief efforts. The team was reported in local news ( Examiner) and WHO. The team is the only official US team sent to Sichuan, and is led by the Physician-in-Chief of the trauma center, Dr. Scalea.

Paper on use of OR video was noted by "Faculty of 1000 Medicine"
Our study on the usage and acceptance of operating room video (published in Anesthesia & Analgesia 2008) was recently noted by a one of the " Faculty of 1000 Medicine", a new "online service that helps you stay informed of high impact articles ... in medicine." Our study was cited as "After extensive discussions with staff concerning questions such as patient confidentiality and privacy, there was a high acceptance of OR video."
