Sciences at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) will visit RPS for a week starting January 18, 2007. She will give a lunch seminar on January 22, 2007 (Monday), starting 12:10PM.

New Office!
We are now officially moved into our new offices in the Shock Trauma Center. Take the visitor elevator to the 3rd floor. Our office entrance is the double doors next to the elevators. Room T3R85. 410-328-7265.

We are moving, finally!
Research in Patient Safety, a division in Program in Trauma, will move to the brand new floor in the Shock Trauma Center. Tentatively we will move boxes on or around December 8th, 2006. Our new location will be on the 3rd floor, room number to be determined!

Yan is now Senior Member of IEEE
Yan was "elevated" to Senior Member in Institute of Electric and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Less than 8% of the 367,000 members of IEEE hold the Senior Member grade.

Peter Hu presentating at the Emergency Preparedness Conference
Peter Hu had presented at the JCR/OSHA/American Red Cross 2nd Annual Emergency Preparedness Conference: Disaster Readiness on the Home Front (Oct 2006) Washington DC. He will highlight the video communication system used in the AAIMS functional exercise jointly held at BWI airport this year. (www.aaims2006.org). The presentation is among the top 10 posters selected for the conference.

First U.S.-Sino Trauma Summit and Training Program
Peter Hu with Dr. Thomas Scalea and Prof. John Spearman have organized the first U.S.-China trauma training and summit program in Shanghai (May, 2006) with the funding from East Hospital Shanghai China.

Danny Ho appointed on the JAMIA Student Editorial Board
Danny Ho (doctoral graduate student of UMBC's information systems department, currently working in our lab) was just appointed to the exclusive Student Editorial Board of the Journal of American Medical Informatics Association, the premier journal of medical informatics.

Ayse Gurses will present at the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting
Dr. Ayse Gurses will present at the Human Factors & Ergonomics Society Annual Meeting in San Francisco on the project funded by National Science Foundation. The project is to investigate ways to support information transfers in intensive care units.

University of Maryland Medical Center establishes Patient Safety Center

Dr. Yan Xiao was appointed as Associated Director for CAPSUM, the Center for Advancement of Patient Safety at University of Maryland.
